About

An adult and a child hold hands while walking through shallow waves on a beach at sunset. Both are wearing light floral dresses as the sun glows golden over the horizon.

The work of the Poverty Initiative centers on promoting and cultivating poverty-focused academic research, moving research to impact, and educating the next generation of students dedicated to eliminating poverty. This work is accomplished through the following areas:

Poverty Research

Expanding the University’s footprint in key areas of academic research directly impacting poverty elimination, including supporting Notre Dame faculty conducting pioneering research

Faculty Recruitment

Supporting departments in recruiting distinguished faculty, funding and providing infrastructure support to new initiatives, and curating potentially valuable areas of research consideration

Poverty Research Fellows

Creating pathways for students to do hands-on work through poverty research, discipline-specific courses, and immersive studies through our Poverty Research Fellows programming

Connecting Leaders

Informing, convening, and linking academics, policymakers, philanthropists, and providers to advance findings into real-world implementation

External Partnerships

Expanding partnerships and developing new relationships across or outside the University to promote or lay the groundwork for success
