Arnie Phifer

Biography

Arnie Phifer is Managing Director of the University of Notre Dame’s Bioengineering & Life Sciences Initiative. Prior to the formation of the initiative, he was Associate Director at ND’s Berthiaume Institute for Precision Health and, before that, its Advanced Diagnostics & Therapeutics Center. Phifer also served as Operations Director for the NSF Center for Bioanalytic Metrology, an Industry-University Cooperative Research Center led by Notre Dame on behalf of more than a dozen industry and academic partners. In recognition of his work on behalf of research at the university, Phifer received a 2022 Presidential Achievement Award.

Phifer worked previously for the Carnegie Institution for Science (Pasadena, CA) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (Washington, D.C.) He holds an MS in Geography from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a BA in History from the University of Notre Dame.
